Kantele used to be the dance party instrument two hundred years ago – so why not also today! Melkutus Party is making energetic, hypnotic and out-of-the-box party music that combines old kantele melodies with electronic beats and soundscapes. In the upcoming album “Mahti”, the band explores their own power (expression used by the old kantele players), dances in the post-human rave and lets out feelings of both joy and sorrow. Band’s party side is accompanied with ambient tunes and all of this is based on the improvisational, rhythmical and minimalistic tradition of kantele.

Melkutus Party started as a solo project of the kantele player Jenni Venäläinen and has grown now into a band.The trio has performed in Finland since 2023 and they made their international debut by touring in the US in 2024. Since then they have also performed in 2025 in Latvia, Lithuania and as official showcase performers at Nordic Folk Alliance in Uppsala, Sweden.

Nordic Notes will release band’s first album in 2026. The label released Jenni Venäläinen’s album “Melkutus Party” in 2023.
